B E A R D

In 2012 I had an idea after photographing the founder of a skin-check mens cancer organisation, and in 2013 I embarked on a two year portrait series that was meant to be a part-time project. This series soon became a full-time portrait series, which with the help and support of a handful of wonderful individuals became BEARD which exhibited at Somerset House London in March 2015. This experience and body of work completely changed the narrative of how I approached my day to day work, what I was interested in producing and what message I wanted to say moving forward.

Beard attracted over 1,500 applicants who collectively travelled from N & S America, Europe and Australia to take part. Over 33,000 visitors saw the show in its three weeks and more importantly produced over £1.25m in media for the cause and simple message to get a skin-check saving dozens of lives in the process.

BEARD travelled to Sweden, Germany and Australia between 2015-16.

‘Brock’s portraits put our charity on a world stage.

Not only celebrating the character and brilliance of our ambassadors, but spreading a message which helped save hundreds, if not, thousands of lives from skin cancer.’

WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO

We have all at one time felt misunderstood, maybe alone, or a little different from the crowd and this is normal, whatever ‘normal’ is?

At the age of fourteen I wanted to be a photographer after realising I was not going to be a professional footballer!

Now as I head towards fifty, I still want to be a photographer but build on this past decades hard work and document humankind to simply celebrate diversity and educate the public, whilst giving individuals a platform to share their journeys and inspire others like them.

So we have formed The Brock Elbank Foundation to work alongside individuals, other organisations and charities to document and exhibit portrait series to show the beauty in diversity from a cross the globe.
