In early March 2025, I received several messages from a Ukrainian organisation called Superhumans Center, based in Lviv. What followed over the next six months would become not only an incredible experience, but a life-changing one.

In May 2025, I flew to Lublin, Poland, where I was met by a representative of Superhumans and driven across the border into Ukraine. I spent the next eight days in Lviv documenting something I will never forget.

Although I was based far from the frontline, I witnessed the realities and consequences of war. The patients and staff at the centre welcomed me into their lives, sharing their personal experiences and the sacrifices they have made. This series challenged me to learn, to listen, and to move beyond my usual way of working.

Superhumans Center is not only saving lives; it is making lives liveable again through state-of-the-art surgery, prosthetics, and rehabilitation.

It was a profoundly humbling experience.
